Cool Clima

Data centres and server rooms at risk of unstable temperatures or failures could benefit from supplementary booster units designed to control temperature and humidity, says temperature control specialist, ICS Cool Energy. The Cool CIima units are split air conditioners that can provide required levels of cooling through the unit’s umbilical (heat extraction hose), which runs discretely to the externally sited condenser unit.

This simple but effective system ensures neither heat nor condensation is filtered back into the server suite and the umbilical prevents exhaust heat being contained in the room, allowing waste heat to be extracted without a need for open windows as pipework can be fed through under floor access or secure pipe access holes in walls. Cool Clima units are discrete, portable in design and easily manoeuvrable with castors to be positioned where required.

Russell Wilson, Director at ICS Cool Energy explains: “During the summer months, we are often approached with requests to support cooling packages that are struggling with increasing ambient air temperatures.

“We have supported many short-term server requirements, by providing discrete and portable emergency cooling solutions that can be speedily installed on site - even on weekends and after hours.”

In addition to the Cool Clima units, ICS Cool Energy’s Hire Division provides cooling cover for planned maintenance and refurbishment requirements, overcoming breakdowns of close control down-flow units. They also offer temporary solutions for refurbishments and cooling system replacements.
Data centres and server rooms require accurate temperature and humidity control at all times as most equipment within the server rooms is operational 24/7, the heat generated builds up and this leads to servers, racking and computer components nearing their heat tolerances, which can result in components becoming ineffective and faulty.

As thermal loads vary throughout the day during phases of increased use, cooling systems need to be able to adapt and regulate load conditions to ensure equipment and components operate at their best without straining to cope. Accurate and precise cooling solutions help maintain system integrity to keep equipment running at optimal performance levels.
