New 40 W AC/DC constant current power supplies cut LED lighting costs

Sunpower’s PLM-40 series of 40 W AC/DC constant current power supplies are highly economical to purchase and very cost-effective to operate, making them ideal for the LED lighting market.

Featuring a 110 – 295 VAC input range, this new series comprises six models, with outputs ranging from 350 mA to 1750 mA. These deliver power cost-effectively as their single stage PFC circuit design enables a high power factor of better than 0.9, while their efficiency is as high as 88%. Their harmonic current limits comply with EN61000-3-2 Class C and fulfil general lighting requirements. The entire series features a no-load power consumption of less than 0.5 W and a set-up time of less than 500 ms; these comply with the ErP regulations required by the European Union for lighting fixtures.

The PLM-40 Series’ high efficiency allows their operation in ambient temperatures from -30 to +45?C with only free air convection cooling. They can therefore be designed into the high working temperature environments found in enclosed lighting systems. It also eliminates the need for cooling fans and their associated space and power requirements, noise and risk of failure.

These units are built into a UL 94V-0 rated plastic enclosure with a Class ll AC input design comprising two wires and no Frame Ground; this construction effectively protects users from electric shock. The PLM-40 units reduce time and difficulty in making I/O wiring connections, as they provide a screw-less push clamp terminal block. This is more convenient for installation than the usual I/O wiring arrangement.

Short circuit and over voltage protection is provided, while all products carry global certificates for ENEC EN61347-2-13, EN62384, UL8750, CB, and CE lighting related regulations. These contribute significantly to operational safety as well as facilitating compliance for their target installations.
Customers’ success is grounded in the quality of products like the PLM-40 series, and sustained by the extent of Sunpower’s value added services and support. Sunpower offers custom metalwork, branding, packaging and technical modifications to ensure that each power supply performs – and appears – exactly as its application demands, which gives it an extra competitive and efficient edge. This is backed by ‘full life’ pre- and post – sales support with dedicated account representatives.

The PLM-40 package is completed with attractive pricing and delivery terms, competitive price breaks, short lead times and shipments rapidly available from a wide network of stock locations.
