Power management software offers Expert help

Schneider Electric has announced the release of its Power Management Expert for Data Centres which promises to help facility managers increase the efficiency of data centre electrical infrastructure whilst reducing the number and duration of unplanned outages.

As a part of Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure™ solutions architecture and StruxureWare™ for Data Centers integrated suite of DCIM applications, the Power Monitoring Expert Solution for Data Centres (PME) provides a focused and fully optimised power management system which actively monitors and analyses the electrical power distribution infrastructure of a data centre – including MV, LV and IT floor power.

The new software provides deep insight into the operation of electrical infrastructure which can help identify ways to increase reliability, efficiency and security of supply. Additionally, PME incorporates powerful capabilities to enable businesses to identify and respond to power system events, measure utility and facility power quality, perform UPS system capacity analysis and optimise power loading, measure PUE and system losses, and carry out generator system testing and capacity management.

Utilising Schneider Electric’s branch circuit meter, PME can monitor multi circuits and manage the dynamic relationship between branch circuits, racks, and customers in order to quickly and accurately monitor the energy per rack and customer, automatically exporting billing determinants to customer billing systems.

Zina Shair, Product Manager at Schneider Electric, comments: “Data centre professionals know that there is an always-on expectation of IT systems. This new software helps address the electrical system’s reliability and efficiency targets.

“Along with outstanding reliability-enhancing tools, the true differentiating feature of this package is the deep electrical system insight it provides, which in turn, enables facilities to simultaneously cut down energy-related operating costs and boost the return on their electrical distribution assets.”
