Coraid and CommVault cooperation brings success

Coraid says that its joint tested backup solutions with CommVault announced in January 31, 2013, is seeing widespread adoption in the market with both end users and channel partners. Enterprises such as Chipotle, HealthCare At Home, and Sony Entertainment appreciate the simple deployment and ease of management of the joint certified solution. Coraid reseller partners like Oriium in the UK value the ability to offer a proven, cost effective solution that solves an otherwise unmet customer pain.

“The partnership between CommVault and Coraid is an example of what can be done by combining best-in-class products in an open storage architecture,” said Doug Dooley, vice president of product management, Coraid. “Together the two companies have solved a major hurdle that IT departments have historically struggled with. The combined power and simplicity of a single data management and storage platform make set up and management easier than ever before.”

Data protection remains a major challenge for enterprise IT departments with growing data sets requiring longer backup windows and management overhead costs. The capabilities of CommVault’s Simpana software are well-matched by the reliability, simplicity, and scalability of Coraid storage. By providing features such as source side deduplication and replication, CommVault Simpana software allows storage administrators to take backups more frequently without drastically increasing storage needs or backup time. Coraid and CommVault address bandwidth issues by offering the ability to upgrade connectivity to provide more bandwidth as needed.

"CommVault is committed to delivering modern, integrated data and information management to enterprises of all sizes," said Jeff Echols, senior director of product marketing and business development, CommVault. “These forward-thinking organizations are embracing innovation delivered by Simpana software's powerful data protection, management and access capabilities with Coraid's scale-out storage architecture, enabling customers to easily manage large data environments and unlocking business insights."

To help advance the success in the market, Coraid also has published a reference architecture paper with CommVault that raises the bar for data and information management. The reference architecture provides a joint-tested solution that meets the changing regulatory demands of storing data as well as the strain that the growing volume of data is placing on backup and archiving. Coraid’s scalable storage architecture combined with CommVault’s Simpana software ensures integrity of data that has been backed up for as long as regulations require. The solution also makes it effortless to maintain recovery point objectives (RPOs) and recovery time objectives (RTOs) by delivering up to 3TB/hr backup and 2.3TB/hr restore speeds – up to 10 times faster than legacy solutions.

“One of the things that really impressed us with the reference architecture is the ability to upgrade the connectivity, capacity and performance independently as our needs change or volumes grow,” said Chris Farmer, IT manager at Siemens MR Magnet Technology, the world’s leading designer and manufacturer of superconducting magnetic resonance imaging magnets for medical applications. “With the old storage array, we also had to be very careful around job scheduling as running multiple tasks could cause severe latency issues. With the Coraid and CommVault solution we have achieved a 1TB per hour verification read speed using the Coraid platform, effectively a 10 times improvement over our old iSCSI storage.”
Coraid EtherDrive storage arrays deliver true scale-out capabilities and provide an attractive alternative to controller-based storage architectures, growing to multiple petabytes without expensive forklift upgrades. Coraid’s EtherCloud™ automation platform enables software-defined storage, with one-click self-service and simplicity for multiple application types. The flexibility and versatility of Coraid’s Ethernet storage technology allows it to be used as primary storage, disk-based backup storage and off-site disaster recovery storage.
