HP AppSystem 1.2 for SAP HANA now powered by HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage

HP AppSystems for SAP HANA have gained significant momentum in the market over the past two years. With new use case applications and expansion of SAP Business Warehouse (BW) scale-out landscapes, customers are recognizing performance and efficiency gaps in legacy storage designs and replacing traditional dual-controller systems with more modern, clustered, scale-out systems.

Today we are pleased to announce HP AppSystems 1.2 for SAP HANA powered by HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage. This update introduces the industry-leading 3PAR StoreServ 7400 Storage array plus the SAP Storage Connector, offering SAP HANA customers a simpler design and up to 7x performance increase over previous-generation storage for the HANA database persistence layer. You will also attain dramatic improvements in total cost of ownership (TCO) resulting from a reduction in the number of components and the amount of floor space required for configurations with 4TB or more RAM.

This new SAP HANA solution extends our existing SAP HANA appliance family and is in response to high customer demand for HP 3PAR StoreServ, which delivers enterprise performance and Tier 1 data services at a competitive price point1. The advanced data services offered by the HP 3PAR StoreServ family make it the storage of choice for three of the top four global service providers. HP 3PAR StoreServ 7400 Storage system one of the fastest growing products in HP Enterprise Group history. Those same capabilities are now part of the new HP AppSystem for SAP HANA and provide availability and performance advantages over legacy SAN offerings from EMC and Hitachi and simplicity over solutions like IBM GPFS.

HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage and the new AppSystem for SAP HANA key features:
• Tier 1 data services and resilience for mission-critical environments.
• Persistent technologies to assure service levels, Distributed disk sparing Quad-controller design for 3-7x performance improvement compared to traditional dual-controller based systems
• Simple, “autonomic” storage configuration for ease of deployment and management requiring up to 90% less effort for storage deployment
• Reduced power requirements and 2x the density versus previous generation – 1 rack for 4 TB RAM vs. 2 racks
• Fully certified by SAP for configurations up to 8TB with advanced 3PAR StoreServ performance capable of supporting even larger configurations 2
• Runs SAP seamlessly with federated storage across data centers, only from HP
• Data and I/O for each volume are striped widely across all system resources (controllers, ports, cache, and drives), which enables the system to simultaneously deliver high capacity utilization (less wasted space) and high performance levels
• Fully integrated, HP solution, built to work together without third-party dependencies

HP is also announcing the extension of its HP Storage Plug-in for SAP NetWeaver Landscape Virtualization Management to include support for SAP NetWeaver Landscape Virtualization Management 2.0.

The HP Plug-in will now integrate HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage and HP XP P9500 Storage with this latest version of SAP NW LVM, providing customers increased automation capabilities for physical and virtual environments.
