Dell Cloud Client Computing introduces Desktop Virtualization technologies for VMware Horizon View™

Dell has announced a host of new and enhanced technologies for desktop virtualisation with VMware Horizon View™. Hot on the heels of its recent Cloud Client Computing developments, Dell, a market leader in thin and zero clients, extended the capability of its PowerEdge VRTX with VMware® Horizon View™ and VMware vSphere® converged VDI solution by integrating the powerful new Ivy Bridge Processor from Intel. This solution is capable of providing vastly increased user density in a converged VDI solution while significantly lowering the total cost of ownership. Other developments include enhanced graphics performance for demanding applications; support unified communications, introduce unique client functionality; and simplifying the adoption of Desktop as a Service.

“Customers are in the driving seat when it comes to procuring cloud and virtualization solutions and Dell is on target with its new offerings as the company is both innovating and partnering to give customers the solutions that will best fit their business needs,” explained David Angwin, Director for Global Field and Channel Marketing with Dell Cloud Client Computing. “Dell is continuing to drive down the cost for desktop virtualization making it a compelling solution for more and more customers. Delivering solutions for technically challenging use cases is a Dell strength, and our support for Microsoft Lync 2013 and high performance graphics in virtual desktop environments demonstrate how we use this strength to meet customer needs.”

Dell drives up user density with Ivy Bridge-Powered PowerEdge VRTX Converged VDI Solution
Uniquely designed for remote and small office environments, Dell’s PowerEdge VRTX with VMware Horizon View, VMware vSphere and the new Intel Ivy Bridge processor is changing the economics of desktop virtualization by delivering new levels of user density. In testing, the Ivy Bridge processor has delivered an increase in user density of over 36 percent for virtualized Windows 7 user clients, and a 61 percent increase in user density for Windows 8 user clients.

With PowerEdge VRTX and Ivy Bridge for VMware Horizon View and VMware vSphere, Dell, VMware and Intel are helping organisations accelerate deployment and configuration of a VDI, while maximising efficiency, lowering total cost of ownership, and delivering consistent VDI services to end users.

Enhanced User Experience
With support for virtualized high performance 3D graphics leveraging VMware Horizon View sVGA and vDGA and NVIDIA® GRID™ K1 and K2 GPUs, unified collaboration and VoIP with Microsoft Lync 2013, customers can access rich media and graphic applications from any location and on virtually any device, while providing IT departments with the ability to centrally host and manage sensitive user data and resources.

Updated Cloud-Based Virtual Desktop Solution
Dell Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS) On Demand has been enhanced with new features from Desktone’s secure multi-tenant VDI platform, delivering session-based desktops, published applications, persistent or non-persistent Windows 7 or XP desktops, and RSA secure authentication, among others. With these updates and Dell’s rapid start pilot program, a variety of global and local organisations have decided to implement this solution. Dell is continuing to extend DaaS On Demand to Channel Partners, and is offering a free trial so customers can quickly and easily experience the benefits of delivering secure, fully-featured virtual desktops to users without any upfront capital cost.

Extended End Point Devices for VMware Horizon View with PCoIP
Complementing existing Dell Wyse P25 and P45 zero clients, the Dell Wyse D10DP virus-immune thin client has been developed to support the PCoIP protocol. Built on the latest AMD dual-core APU (accelerated processor unit) and with auto-management technology, the D10DP delivers outstanding graphics performance, no day-to-day maintenance requirements, and boots up in less than 10 seconds. The D10DP’s support for wireless networking and multiple sessions combined with its virus-immune Dell Wyse ThinOS firmware delivers unique functionality for VMware Horizon View environments.

Enhanced Strategic Go-To-Market Partnership, Technology Partner Ecosystem and Channel Commitment
Dell and VMware have jointly delivered new resources and programs to help channel partners build successful desktop virtualization practices. Online training, partner certification, incentives and marketing campaigns, backed by Dell’s specialist sales, technical and engineering resources demonstrate both companies commitment to serve partners who sell joint Dell-VMware solutions.
