TelecityGroup launches new state-of-the-art-data centre in Helsinki, Finland

New premium facility to serve corporate customers in Finland as well the growing Russian and Baltic markets.

TelecityGroup, Europe’s industry-leading provider of premium carrier-neutral data centres, has officially opened Hansa, the latest of the Group’s new data centres located in the Helsinki Metropolitan area, Finland. The new Hansa facility will strengthen TelecityGroup’s ability to serve its corporate customers in Finland as well as attract new customers from abroad, particularly from the emerging Russian and Baltic markets.

Marko Vanninen, Managing Director, TelecityGroup Finland comments: “Finland is a major strategic European internet hub with excellent operational conditions, in terms of both location and premium infrastructure. We believe that by increasing customer capacity in the region we will bring more international customers to the Finnish market. This will be further boosted by the government’s planned reform of electricity tax, as well as the plans for a direct marine data cable to Germany.”

TelecityGroup selected the facility’s location in the Vantaa area of Helsinki as the ideal location for the new data centre due to its extensive connectivity options, its secure location and its proximity to a nearby 195MW power plant. This helps to support the facility’s operational resilience and ensures the power required for future capacity expansion. The data centre will be completed in stages and when complete will be one of the largest carrier-neutral data centres in Finland, with 5MW of customer capacity.

Hansa’s design incorporates the latest technologies to maximise the efficiency of cooling, and minimise energy use and CO2 emissions. The building has a design Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of below 1.3 and the waste heat produced by the facility will be recycled.

The Hansa facility is TelecityGroup’s fifth data centre in Finland. The other four data centres are located in Viikinmäki, Suvilahti, Pitäjänmäki and under the Uspenski Cathedral in Katajanokka.
