Syncsort and Cloudera technology partnership helps enterprises leverage mainframe Big Data in Hadoop

Combined solution helps solve cost and skills challenges, bridging the gap between Big Iron and Big Data initiatives.

Syncsort has announced a technology partnership with Cloudera geared to provide mutual customers with a better to way to create competitive advantage by exploiting critical mainframe data in Hadoop for Big Data analytics.

The mainframe hosts mission-critical corporate data for most of the Fortune 1000 and is an essential component to be combined with unstructured data sources, such as web logs and clickstream data. As enterprises begin their Big Data initiatives, these organisations need to develop strategies to address the unique challenges of leveraging mainframe data in Hadoop. In addition, Hadoop is providing a compelling option for organisations that are looking to offload processing of mainframe data.

“Enterprises are looking to ensure they can efficiently incorporate mainframe data into their Big Data initiatives,” said Tim Stevens, vice president business and corporate development, Cloudera. “Syncsort’s Hadoop ETL product, DMX-h, allows market-leading access to mainframe data as well as helping to reduce costs by replicating expensive mainframe batch processes in Hadoop. Combined with our best-of-class Hadoop distribution, customers can achieve a new level of efficiency and open the door to advanced Big Data analytics.”

With over 40 years of mainframe experience, software that is running on over half of the world’s mainframes, and its Hadoop ETL offering, Syncsort provides proven expertise and a better way to collect, process, and distribute mainframe and legacy data in Hadoop with no coding, tuning, or specialised mainframe skills required. Cloudera provides deep Hadoop expertise, with a secure, reliable platform that makes Hadoop enterprise-ready. The combined solution allows organisations to securely and efficiently offload mainframe processing to Hadoop.

“Leading organisations around the world continue to rely on mainframes for their mission critical applications with the largest volumes of data. As Big Data goes mainstream, these organisations are looking to integrate this vital business information into Hadoop, but do not want to rely on time-consuming and expensive hand-coding approaches,” said Bryan Ashley, vice president business development, Syncsort. “With Syncsort’s Data Integration solutions and Cloudera Enterprise, they meet this goal with an easier way to read, translate, and process mainframe data within Hadoop.”
