Panduit Corp. has announced the launch of a new, multi-piece fibre connector, PanMPO™ designed to support infrastructure expansions from 10 Gigabit Ethernet to 40 Gigabit Ethernet. The unique, patented connector is the first of its kind that allows for connector polarity and gender to be changed in the field, simplifying migration to higher network bandwidth requirements.
The move towards virtualised networks and widespread adoption of cloud computing is driving demand for higher bandwidth requirements across many data centre infrastructures. At the same time, the need to reduce operational costs means that expenditure on the fibre infrastructure must ensure the highest return on investment. To meet these demands, Panduit has developed its new PanMPO™ pre-terminated connectors, which ensure a smooth migration path to higher network speeds whilst protecting existing fibre infrastructure investments.
Typically, all multi fibre push-on, pull-off connectors are constructed with fixed polarity and fixed gender. Uniquely, patch cords using the Panduit PanMPO™ connector have been designed to enable organisations to change the polarity and gender of the fibre connector, as needed. This provides more versatility in complex fibre channels and minimises the number of connector configurations which managers must keep in stock and manage. This has an immediate benefit for both end users and installers; it eliminates the complexity around polarity and gender when ordering new connectors and avoids delays in troubleshooting when the correct gender or polarity cord is not available.
Gary Gould EMEA Marketing Director, Panduit comments: "Investments in Data Centre infrastructure must deliver the maximum ROI and protect against any future changes to accommodate demand for higher network speeds. Panduit's innovative connector takes the guesswork out of new installations and massively simplifies the transition from 10G Ethernet to 40G Ethernet because only one type of MPO patch cord is required to accommodate any configuration."
