Calzedonia improves competitiveness with SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications

Platform now offered to cloud service providers to meet growing customer demand.

The Calzedonia Group, one of Italy's most popular retail chains of intimate apparel and accessories, has reduced IT operational costs while improving uptime and performance by using SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications. By implementing an open, scalable and trusted SUSE Linux Enterprise platform, Calzedonia saved over 70 percent on hardware acquisition and maintenance costs, while also achieving 99.9 percent uptime for its business-critical SAP applications. And due to its growing popularity, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications is now enabled and being offered on-demand, available for cloud service providers to resell to its customers through the SUSE Cloud Provider Program.

Calzedonia's previous ERP system struggled to keep up with increasing data demands and was beginning to hinder its ambitious international growth plans. Calzedonia replaced it with a comprehensive suite of SAP applications running on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications and industry standard hardware.

“When building our solution including the SAP ERP application, we wanted to find a resilient and cost-effective operating system," said Federica Dall’Ora, IT manager, Calzedonia. "We carried out a rigorous selection process and finally opted for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications, because it perfectly suited our business needs, with its unique technical features and SUSE’s highly professional and efficient support services.”

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications is optimised for SAP solutions, allowing customers to standardise their SAP applications on a single, reliable, certified high-performance platform that supports large, in-memory databases in physical, virtual and cloud environments.

“Without SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications, we certainly would have not been able to pursue our international expansion plans, and our business would not have grown as we wanted,” said Dall’Ora.

Strong customer adoption, and double-digit growth since its introduction just over a year ago, has resulted in the expansion of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications into new distribution channels. For the first time, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications is now enabled for on-demand consumption and available for SUSE cloud service providers to resell. It joins other enterprise offerings like the SAP HANA® One service that are designed to deliver business-critical IT services through on-demand public cloud infrastructure.

"With SAP HANA One, customers can quickly, easily and affordably perform real-time analysis, develop and deploy real-time applications, and accelerate transactional processing and operational reporting, with just a few clicks," said Sapan Panigrahi, vice president, SAP HANA Cloud Computing, SAP. "We expect the introduction of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications through cloud service providers to help advance the deployment of business-critical production workloads in public cloud infrastructure."

"Companies using SUSE Linux Enterprise Server have been able to consistently deliver outstanding application uptime and performance—even under full CPU loads and high memory stress," said Michael Miller, vice president of global alliances and marketing, SUSE. "Calzedonia’s impressive performance and ROI, and the introduction of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications through cloud service providers, demonstrate that SUSE is the right choice for your enterprise, both now and in the future.”
