Active Power supports Datum

With the goal of putting in place resilient electrical infrastructure and achieving a low power usage effectiveness (PUE), Datum, a business class datacentre provider, has deployed Active Power’s CleanSource® 1000 kVA uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system at its new colocation facility in QinetiQ Cody Technology Park in Farnborough, United Kingdom.

The flagship facility designed and built by specialist firm Keysource opened earlier this year and includes as its customers managed service providers, systems integrators, and other technology firms. All critical backup power equipment including UPS was deployed in a separate energy centre apart from the main datacentre. CleanSource UPS was integrated into a 2N design with two separate power paths supporting the facility’s IT loads, ensuring complete resilience and full concurrent maintainability in a modular scalable solution.

Dominic Phillips, Managing Director of Datum comments, “Our focus was to design and build a colocation facility that would support the exacting standards and requirements of our customers in terms of IT capacity, power, cooling, and security not only for today, but for the future”. Phillips continues, “Active Power’s UPS was a key component in helping us achieve our environmentally intelligent design as the product delivers industry leading energy and space efficiencies. This combined with Keysource Ecofris cooling solution ensures we attain an annualised PUE of just 1.25.”
“Our UPS platform offers customers unmatched power density, reliability, and total cost of ownership,” said Mark Lee, General Manager of Active Power, UK. “Keysource’s approach to High Performance Modular Data Centre Infrastructure (MDCI) and Datum’s desire for low operational PUE fully aligns with the tangible operational advantages of our CleanSource UPS, enabling Datum to set new standards in datacentre performance”, concludes Mr Lee.
