Virtustream goes live with SAP ECC production HANA system

Customers running Virtustream’s HANA Managed Service benefit from HANA performance, no capex, and full cloud elasticity and cost efficiencies.

Virtustream, Inc says that the first SAP ECC-on-HANA in the cloud is now live in production on the Virtustream Enterprise Class Cloud powered by its xStream cloud management software. This is a significant addition to Virtustream’s SAP capabilities and allows customers to deploy SAP HANA® as a managed service, with no up-front hardware costs and a fully managed HANA environment.

Virtustream, which already supports a wide variety of SAP technologies in the cloud, now provides HANA as a managed service connected to Virtustream’s IaaS enterprise class cloud. This means that HANA can be deployed for all production as well as test and development environments in very short timeframes to dynamically address customers’ business needs. With Virtustream, enterprises deploying HANA as part of their Business Warehouse (BW), Suite on HANA, and Enterprise environments can access proven cloud and HANA expertise, at significantly lower infrastructure costs than those associated with physical deployments.

“The performance of our production version ECC on the HANA Managed Service is astounding,” said Don Whittington, CIO of Florida Crystals Corporation and client of Virtustream. “Reports that ran in minutes are running in milliseconds. Programs that previously ran for hours are now finishing in a matter of minutes. This, combined with the cost effectiveness of the pay-what-you-use cloud environment and white glove service of a fully managed SAP environment, we now plan to move to HANA for all of our production environments in the Virtustream enterprise cloud.”
As an SAP-certified cloud services and SAP-certified cloud hosting provider, Virtustream manages, operates and delivers heavyweight enterprise SAP applications in the cloud. In addition to the new HANA Managed Service, Virtustream also offers the migration of enterprise applications such as SAP Business Suite and Business Objects’ BI applications to the cloud. For HANA in particular, Virtustream offers HANA optimisation consulting to enable enterprises to realise the full value of this exciting new technology.

Virtustream’s HANA Managed Service offers capex-free access to configured and available managed HANA appliances, hosted in Virtustream’s SAP-certified data centres and connected to Virtustream’s SAP-certified xStream cloud platform. Once their landscapes are provisioned, additional HANA nodes and related SAP landscapes can be added in hours. The xStream cloud platform delivers the elasticity needed to optimise performance and scale to meet demand, while drastically cutting time to market. In fact, SAP’s response time improves by 20 percent running on Virtustream’s cloud. Virtustream’s micro-VMTM (µVM) technology makes it possible for IT operating expenses to be more efficiently optimised, while its consumption-based pricing eliminates upfront capital expenditure costs. As a result, customers are able to move to the cloud at their own pace and in alignment with their business needs, while significantly reducing IT costs since pricing will adjust accordingly as the organisation grows.

“We are excited to announce Virtustream’s HANA Managed Service, for enterprises wanting to deploy this technology quickly, with no initial capex and in our secure, scalable cloud,” said Rodney Rogers, chairman and chief executive officer of Virtustream. “We also look forward to helping enterprise customers realise the benefits of running their organisation’s SAP applications in the cloud, delivering greater resource efficiency and infrastructure cost savings.”
