Silver Peak sets WAN performance record

Silver Peak Systems has raised the bar for Wide Area Network (WAN) performance with the release of two new data centre class software products, and the introduction of the world’s fastest WAN optimisation hardware appliance capable of delivering 20 gigabits-per-second (Gbps) of data throughput.

Data volumes are growing rapidly and the need to move more data over distance for disaster recovery or centralised applications is straining WAN infrastructures. Today, 66 percent of IT professionals believe limited bandwidth constrains their ability to replicate data while 72 percent would like to replicate more data[1]. To keep IT operations running smoothly and spending down, companies of all sizes must address these new challenges and avoid costly infrastructure upgrades by deploying data acceleration solutions. Silver Peak’s Virtual Acceleration Open Architecture (VXOA) powers the most flexible and highest-performing options, both software and hardware, for moving data quickly between remote offices, data centres, and the cloud.

World’s Fastest WAN Optimisation Software
The new Silver Peak VX-8000 and VX-9000 are the industry’s fastest software data accelerators. The VX-9000 delivers more than one Gbps of WAN performance — 10 times faster than the nearest competitor’s virtual product family (Riverbed Virtual Steelhead). The new products complement Silver Peak’s comprehensive portfolio of downloadable VX virtual software, which run on any standard hypervisor including VMware vSphere, Citrix XenServer, Microsoft Hyper-V, and KVM. The VX software combines the cost and flexibility benefits of virtualisation with the performance gains associated with Silver Peak data acceleration technology.

“Our business is all about moving large amounts of music content and data over distance, but our gigabit network couldn’t keep pace with our growing data requirements. Throwing more money at bandwidth wasn’t going to solve the problem,” said Nicolas Ratineau, director of systems engineering for INgrooves, distributor of digital music files to more than 400 online and mobile entertainment partners. “Silver Peak VX-9000s and subscription pricing helped us quickly and cost-effectively supercharge our existing network and accelerate our NetApp SnapMirror replication workloads. We can now move hundreds-of-terabytes of data in a fraction of the time it used to take.”

World’s Fastest WAN Optimisation Hardware
The new Silver Peak NX-11K is a two-rack-unit (2U) hardware appliance that sets a new world record for WAN performance with 5 Gbps of WAN capacity and up to 20 Gbps of optimised throughput for TCP and non-TCP applications. This is five-times more WAN capacity and throughput than any other product, including those from Riverbed and Cisco. The appliance also supports 512,000 simultaneous sessions, which is essential for optimising traffic from many users.

“Silver Peak continues to deliver the world’s fastest WAN accelerators, both virtual and physical,” said Rick Tinsley, CEO of Silver Peak. “From multi-national corporations to small businesses, customers demand maximum performance and minimal costs when it comes to accelerating their network. Only Silver Peak offers any organisation the highest-performance, most cost-effective, and most flexible deployment options for accelerating data anywhere in the world.”
