With customers crying out for a ‘best of both worlds’ hosting solution 123-reg’s new Cloud Server range provides them with the power and performance of a dedicated server with the flexibility and affordability of a Virtual Private Server (VPS).
The Cloud Server range uses a physical server in much the same way as a VPS by splitting a server into separate virtual containers. Where a VPS shares resources amongst the virtual containers, Cloud Servers instead utilise dedicated hardware to deliver superior performance. With fewer customers housed on each server (in the case of the Dedicated Cloud server only a single customer per server) the available resources can be used more efficiently. The combination of virtualisation and dedicated technology provides guaranteed performance and allows costs to be lowered as you are sharing space with other customers, whilst providing the power of a dedicated server.
The Cloud Server range gives customers full administrative access and the ability to host multiple websites. This means they can host whatever they want, even their own applications with high user volumes on a single server and allow them to utilise up to 500Mbps of bandwidth. Security will also be increased as users no longer need to share hard disk resources. In addition tasks like upgrading to higher hardware specifications will now take hours instead of days, and - as a result of this - users will also see an increase in flexibility.
Daniel Hagemeier, Group Head of Cloud Hosting at Host Europe Group, said of the launch: “The server market today is generally very commoditised – with customers choosing from the optimum end of the spectrum with a dedicated server, through to VPS and shared hosting. Customers have a choice of an often costly, powerful service or a more affordable but less heavyweight offering. There is very little available for those looking for some middle ground.
“Our new Cloud Server range is the natural evolution of the VPS and classic dedicated server. We believe that it is going to make a real difference to our customers – allowing them to have a product that not only has the flexibility and performance they require, but for a fraction of the price of other comparative solutions on the market,” Daniel concluded.
