SUSE collaborates with Dell to deliver enterprise cloud deployments

Dell SUSE Cloud Solution, powered by OpenStack now generally available.

SUSE has announced the general availability of an enterprise-class private cloud infrastructure solution combining Dell hardware and services with SUSE software. The Dell SUSE Cloud Solution, powered by OpenStack helps organisations rapidly deploy and easily manage open source private clouds. It is backed by the seamless support of the Dell and SUSE worldwide support organisations.

The joint solution uses SUSE Cloud as its cloud management reference platform, which is packaged for enterprise environments and integrated with SUSE maintenance and lifecycle management processes. Tight integration between OpenStack and Crowbar, an open-source project initiated by Dell, simplifies deployment, management and administration of physical cloud infrastructure. Dell and SUSE continue to actively contribute towards Crowbar's development, and its integration into SUSE Cloud helps customers rapidly build private clouds.

With the Dell SUSE Cloud Solution, powered by OpenStack, customers can more easily build a highly scalable cloud foundation that is designed to handle massive compute loads while maintaining the ability to customise their cloud environment.

"The ease with which we can deploy and manage cloud-based workloads using SUSE Cloud has allowed us to rapidly expand the cloud services we offer," said Frans Labuschagne, senior manager, Open Systems Support Services in the Data Center Services Division of BCX. "SUSE Cloud simplifies our installation processes, enabling us to set up clouds in our data center quickly and reduces the tasks needed to add capacity as we continue our growth.”

SUSE Cloud, running on Dell PowerEdge servers, delivers a dynamic and flexible private cloud infrastructure. Enterprises using SUSE Cloud benefit from the largest portfolio of certified third-party applications running on Linux as well as certifications on all Dell hardware. As a result, SUSE and Dell customers can be assured that the software and infrastructure solutions they use today will move to the cloud with them. SUSE Cloud includes 24x7 worldwide technical support.

“Dell has been enabling enterprises with cloud solutions that are easy to deploy and manage, and can scale up or down with their business needs,” said Forrest Norrod, vice president and general manager, Dell Server Solutions. “As a part of our ongoing commitment to build solutions on open standards, we are proud to have partnered with SUSE, one of Dell’s Emerging Solutions Ecosystem Partners, to create an enterprise-ready private cloud solution that provides the support many customers require.”

For over eight years, SUSE and Dell have collaborated closely to develop innovations that deliver the performance, interoperability and reliability enterprises needed to run mission-critical Linux environments.

“SUSE and Dell are both deeply committed to the OpenStack foundation, and we share the goal of creating an easy-to-deploy and manage cloud infrastructure for the enterprise,” said Michael Miller, vice president of global alliances and marketing, SUSE. “We are pleased to enter into this agreement with Dell because it helps make this goal a reality for our mutual customers. Through our technology and business collaboration with Dell we are bringing a complete enterprise-class solution to market backed by industry leading support and services.”
