ICS Cool Energy Ltd nominated for green project

Businesses are being encouraged to vote for the energy efficient cooling project completed for Cork Internet Exchange by ICS Cool Energy Ltd in the Green Datacentre Project of the Year category at a national industry awards ceremony. The project was recently nominated for the award by a client, following the installation of an energy efficient cooling system that has achieved high energy efficiencies and cost savings.

The client, Cork Internet Exchange (CIX), recently invested in an ICS Cool Energy’s Aptus free cooling system for their 20,000 sq. ft. data centre in Southern Ireland. The Aptus units were installed on the roof of the CIX’s data centre.

Aptus units work by using the low external air temperatures to send chilled water to the computer room air conditioners inside the data centre. This free cooling technology is capable of achieving high energy efficiency ratios at both full and part load conditions – with the result that the data centre only has to run the compressors for approximately 3,000 hours per year, with the remaining 5,760 hours requiring power to run the pumps and fans only.

At a time when energy costs are set to rise, this level of energy saving is enormous and the combined benefits of the reduced running hours of the compressors with the longer life expectancy of the Aptus units, makes free cooling chillers a good all round cooling solution.

Jerry Sweeney, Managing Director at CIX explained their requirements: “We needed a cooling vendor to supply us with a durable cooling system with a good support contact and a dependable 24/7 service support. ICS Cool Energy Limited provides us with all of these capabilities and we are very happy to be working with them.”

Speaking of the awards ceremony, Adam Spolnik, Director at ICS Cool Energy said, “We are thrilled to have been able to make a difference to our client’s energy usage and costs; and extremely proud to have been nominated for this prestigious award. We hope that others feel that we deserve the award for this project and vote for us.”

The Data Centre Solutions Awards evening is a black tie event at which the achievements of end-users, channel partners, and vendors operating in the data centre field, are recognised. There are a number of categories in the 2013 event, with an additional award made to the supplied who nominated the winning organisation.

The awards ceremony will take place on 23rd May 2013 at The Millennium Gloucester Hotel and Conference Centre in London.
Votes for the ‘Cork Internet Exchange supported by ICS Cool Energy Limited’ project can be made online at www.dcsawards.com/voting before 9th May 2013.
