A new consortium is attempting to spin the world of computer memory on its head by creating a highly power-efficient form of memory technology that will instantly become superior to standard DDR3 memory modules. The Hybrid Memory Cube Consortium have proposed energy-efficient memory technology in a new specification which not only boasts eco-friendly credentials, it also delivers 15 times the bandwidth of a standard DDR3 module.

International IT solutions provider, Logicalis, has commenced a £4 million, two year data centre and core network infrastructure project for the University of Southampton. The contract, which includes wireless access across the Russell Group University’s six campuses and halls of residence, will underpin the delivery of IT services to staff and students, support High Performance Computing initiatives, and help build on the University’s global status as a research leader.
