StorPool enables Coreix to offer performance increase of hundreds of thousands of sustained IOPS

Colocation and network services provider Coreix is using StorPool software for its new public cloud platform. By implementing StorPool, Coreix is able to offer its customers a high-performance storage solution that starts at more than 300,000 IOPS and can grow to over one million sustained IOPS and 2PB of scale.

London-based Coreix provides hosting solutions to more than 600 customers in sectors that span financial services, government, oil and manufacturing. Each customer has a different requirement, so the Coreix team offers tailored hardware and software solutions ranging from single dedicated servers to managed multi-server clusters, public and private cloud services.

Coreix’s customers are demanding: their technologies are cutting edge and require high performance and assured availability. Coreix’s existing storage was struggling with the increasing need for speed and reliability. It was slow and prone to outages. When the IT team started to develop a new public cloud platform for its expanding customer base, it was clear they needed a new storage solution that could offer higher performance as well as the flexibility to easily and quickly scale out when needed.

StorPool’s software-defined storage systems scale well beyond 1PB in a single cluster with a sustained performance of millions of IOPS and throughput of tens of GB/s per cluster. The distributed storage software’s standard use of two CPU cores, 8 GB RAM and 0.2 ms latency make it the prime solution for companies building clouds. The Coreix team initially installed StorPool software onto six servers to provide high performance, cost effective storage solutions for its public cloud customers; following this installation, Coreix will deploy StorPool to serve its hybrid and private cloud customers too.

Coreix technical director Paul Davies said: “StorPool has helped us to provide a better service for our customers. As our demands grew, and as our customers’ expectations increased, our existing storage solution simply couldn’t cope. Now we’re confident that StorPool will grow with us, and that together we’ll be able to rise to any storage challenge we face.”

StorPool CEO Boyan Ivanov said: “The adoption of software-defined storage is starting to see a marked increase across a wide spectrum of sectors. That’s because people are beginning to understand what intelligent SDS can really do in terms of speed, reliability and cost. StorPool is at the forefront of this trend, and our work with Coreix shows what can be achieved with a well-designed solution, starting small and growing as needed.”
