brightsolid, the cloud hosting and data centre service provider, has included Backup-as-a-Service (BaaS) solution Asigra Cloud Backup into its product portfolio. Asigra’s technology will join Veeam Cloud Connect in brightsolid’s BaaS offering, providing customers with the ability to select from two industry leading cloud backup repository solutions.
Asigra Cloud Backup is the first converged data protection software to provide a single, integrated approach for managing data recovery across locations and computing platforms.
The solution uses agentless architecture as a backup/restore software delivery platform and will enable brightsolid to deliver secondary storage services and disaster recovery services to customers. Asigra Cloud Backup Software (DS-Client) is installed in the LAN the source computers connect to, rather than on the source computer itself, and is responsible for handling data compression and data encryption.  Data is compressed and encrypted before it is transmitted to the DS-System, which is homed in brightsolid’s ISO27001:2013 security accredited data centres. The DS-Client is also responsible for initiating data restores, which, depending on retention sets, can be stored locally, offering immediate data recovery for business critical systems.
“Asigra Cloud Backup’s outstanding reputation, coupled with its ability to backup both physical and virtual machines made it a no brainer for us. Many of our customers have a complex IT estate across multiple locations – Asigra makes it simple for us to restore data from multiple locations and also fits nicely within our hybrid cloud philosophy. We believe that not all clouds, or data sets, are equal and our customers should and do have the right to determine what is important – what they would like to be kept on site, what needs to be in private cloud, and when appropriate, where they would like to embrace the utility cloud for cost efficiencies,” explains Katie Dawn Armstrong, head of marketing, brightsolid. “Our mission is technical innovation with personal service. Sometimes that means providing our customers with a strong and secure foundation so they can stop worrying about ‘keeping the lights on’ and instead, get time back to innovate and do the things that are important for their business and its growth”.
Asigra Cloud Backup software will be housed at brightsolid’s Dundee and Aberdeen colocation facilities.  The enterprise-class data protection platform will allow brightsolid customers to manage and protect their data with a market-leading solution that seamlessly and efficiently scales as needed. Thanks to its agentless approach, backups will be carried out faster and without the resource intensity of traditional backup services and customers have full visibility into the status of their backups through a monitoring portal.  Available immediately, brightsolid customers will have access to its full file system backup, VM Level backups, application aware backup, database backups and CDP backups, with further services expected to be offered at a later date.
