Young engineers thrive at Crestchic during Year of Engineering

Three young, talented engineers have been appointed into key design roles at global loadbank manufacturer, Crestchic’s factory in the Midlands.

Two of the appointments come as internal promotions at a time when the business is keen to invest in, and celebrate, its young talent amid the UK’s Year of Engineering – a year-long campaign to tackle the engineering skills gap and widen the pool of young people who join the profession.

Tony Higginson has taken on the role of Electrical Design Manager following several successful months as an Electrical Design Engineer at Crestchic. Previously he worked at Marlec Engineering where he supported on the launch of a new micro wind turbine the ‘Rutland 1200’, alongside being an active member of The Institute of Engineering and Technology. Working in the design office Tony is responsible for the electrical design of bespoke loadbanks used for the testing of generators and power supplies. This requires timely producing and issuing of assembly CAD drawings and manuals.

The business has also promoted Richard Coleman to Electrical Systems Development Engineer having previously worked for two years as an Electrical Development & Design Engineer. Earlier in his career, Richard participated in a work-based learning year at The Technical University of Munich to then go on to an Electricity Distribution Networks course with Sterling Power Group.

Electrical & Mechanical Design Engineer, Isabella Xu has also joined Crestchic from a plant and equipment company in Swadlincote where she worked as a Project Engineer for a year. Before that she completed an internship with Delta Electronics China allowing her to diversify her skillset within the engineering sector.

Richard explains why he chose engineering as a career: “I have had an overwhelming passion for electronic systems right from an early age, I was fascinated by how electrical engineers are continuously finding more effective and powerful methods of enhancing our everyday lives through electronic technologies. I aspired to develop my knowledge of how the focal skills, such as system design and software engineering, have led to the numerous breakthroughs in the digital era. As a young child, my encounter with electronic gadgets made me eager to understand what made them operate and how these components functioned and felt it best corresponded to my strongest skill set.”

Paul Brickman, Sales and Marketing Director at Crestchic commented: “At Crestchic we’re always looking to invest in vibrant young team members who bring new skills and ways of working into their roles. With strong qualifications and a passion for engineering these new appointments will be a great addition to our business.”
