Deutsche Telekom offers end-to-end IoT bundles for a quick start in the Internet of Things

By now, most companies have realized that the Internet of Things (IoT) can give their business a boost. Yet the complexity is a deterrent to many: As the IDC study "Internet of Things in Deutschland 2018" shows, one in five SME companies would like to have all-around, care-free packages to deploy IoT solutions for their business.

 

To meet this demand, Deutsche Telekom is launching new, end-to-end bundles for its customers, to ease their way into the IoT. The bundles contain everything an end-to-end IoT solution needs: hardware, mobile connectivity, cloud storage, and a user-friendly web portal. Thanks to the incorporation of reliable, standardized platforms, customers can deploy and use these IoT solutions quickly and easily, without complex installation. Therefore an essential component of all the IoT bundles is access to Deutsche Telekom's IoT platform – the "Cloud of Things powered by Cumulocity", which Deutsche Telekom operates in collaboration with Software AG.

 

The first end-to-end solutions are "Asset Tracking" and "Industrial Machine Monitoring"; more bundles for a variety of industries and use cases will follow.

 

 

Asset Tracking: Constant monitoring of your valuable devices

With this IoT bundle, questions about where a company's valuable mobile devices and machines are currently located are a thing of the past. This secure, robust solution lets you localize important assets and machines at any time, avoiding delays and unnecessary, expensive replacements of misplaced assets. In case of theft, Asset Tracking can trigger an alert quickly and expedite the resolution of the case. After all, the theft of working tools and supplies, machinery, and materials from companies and construction sites, for example, causes heavy losses every year.

 

The Asset Tracking end-to-end package includes a tracker whose battery life has been optimized specifically for long-term, mobile, outdoor use; access to the Asset Tracking web portal; wireless connectivity; and cloud storage. Integration and analysis of the data in downstream systems such as SAP is possible at any time and the solution can be tailored to companies' specific needs, thanks to the open interfaces.

 

Industrial Machine Monitoring: Monitor machinery in real time

The "Industrial Machine Monitoring" end-to-end solution lets companies automate the monitoring of their machinery, giving them reliable, real-time information about their current status. After a few simple configuration steps, the machine data can be transferred quickly. All machines and devices that use an industry protocol such as Modbus RTU can be connected with Deutsche Telekom's IoT platform, visualized, and monitored through the Cloud Fieldbus. The predictive maintenance that the monitoring makes possible can cut costs significantly, increase machine availability and useful life in the long term, and improve quality.

 

IoT Service Button: Order spare parts at the touch of a button

Another straightforward solution for getting started with the Internet of Things is Deutsche Telekom's IoT Service Button. This solution lets companies retrofit production equipment, workshops, construction sites, or hospitals, to make them “smart” and connect them with the Internet of Things. A button can be configured to order spare parts, trigger a pickup for full containers, or report technical malfunctions when pressed, for example, depending on the customer's specific needs. The IoT Service Button can be installed anywhere, under the plug-and-play principle, and functions independently of the power grid and company networks.
