Cloud Native Computing Foundation accepts Quantum-initiated storage project

CNCF recognises Rook project for enabling storage systems to run directly on top of cloud native environments.

Quantum says that the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) has voted to accept Rook, the open source project Quantum initiated, as a hosted project. Rook is a cloud native storage orchestration solution for modern data centers that simplifies container storage services. It provides the benefits of cloud infrastructures to both public cloud and on-premise environments, including the ability to flexibly allocate file, block and object storage to different application and business units.
Open source orchestrator for distributed storage systems in cloud native environments
Rook turns distributed storage software into self-managing, self-scaling and self-healing storage services. It does so by automating the tasks of a storage administrator, including deployment, bootstrapping, configuration, provisioning, scaling, upgrading, migration, disaster recovery, monitoring and resource management. In addition, Rook capitalises on the power of the underlying cloud native container management, scheduling and orchestration platform to perform its duties.
Designed for Kubernetes, Rook leverages extension points and provides a seamless experience for scheduling, lifecycle management, resource management, security, monitoring and user experience. It also brings file, block and object storage systems into the Kubernetes cluster, running them seamlessly alongside other applications and services that are consuming the storage. By doing so, the cloud native cluster becomes self-sufficient and portable across public cloud and on-premise deployments.
