Veritas accelerates digital business transformation

New solutions advance data protection, storage management, high availability  and application performance for hybrid cloud environments.

Veritas Technologies has revealed its vision for a sweeping range of new solutions for cloud data management  designed to help organisations as they transform to digital businesses. The new solutions will address the three foundational pillars for comprehensive enterprise data management: data protection, data availability and data insight. With its new cloud data management solutions, Veritas will help organisations manage the IT complexity of hybrid clouds with new capabilities that help them drive more value from their data while reducing cost and business risk.

The opportunity to leverage data is hindered by the fact that it’s stored in many places, making it difficult for organisations to manage and govern,” said Ana Pinczuk, Chief Product Officer at Veritas. “In a world of digital transformation where information is everything, data becomes your key business asset.  Data is growing exponentially and you can’t solve that with hardware.  A software-driven approach, which completely abstracts information from infrastructure, is the only path forward.  Veritas’ data management solutions help organisations achieve data protection, business resiliency and regulatory readiness across heterogeneous environments, whether on-premises or in the cloud.”

Data Protection

Efficient Backup and Recovery with Support for a Broad Range of Cloud Environments
Organisations want to seamlessly move data to and from the cloud to take advantage of the added operational efficiencies and flexibility delivered by cloud environments. It is critical that organisations remain confident their data is protected as their cloud investments continue to grow. Building on existing support for cloud providers that include Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google, future releases of Veritas NetBackup will add connector capabilities to Microsoft Azure and OpenStack clouds. NetBackup is expected to provide the enhanced cloud connector capabilities in the coming quarters.

Data Availability

Enterprise Grade Power for OpenStack Private Cloud Environments
While OpenStack delivers flexibility and agility, application performance concerns and noisy neighbor challenges can cause enterprises to hesitate when it comes to deploying their business critical applications on OpenStack. Veritas is aligning with the open source community to help OpenStack users reap the benefits of a software-defined future. The new Veritas HyperScale for OpenStack software defined storage solution will allow organisations to confidently deploy their OLTP tier one and tier two applications on OpenStack environments and ensure storage quality of service and application resiliency. HyperScale for OpenStack employs a revolutionary architecture that provides policy-based workload deployment, offloads backups and snapshots from compute resources, and can perform live migrations in case of storage and network failures. HyperScale’s software-defined approach achieves superior performance versus cost. Veritas HyperScale for OpenStack will be available in the coming quarters. Enterprises can incorporate this HyperScale for OpenStack release in pre-production use as they look to undertake their overall OpenStack journey to scale.

Software-Defined Storage with Resiliency and Performance at Scale
Organisations continue to generate data at a phenomenal rate, often by legacy applications architected for network attached storage (NAS). This creates high storage expense as well as performance issues for new analytics applications that require low latency and access the same data. The new Veritas Access provides seamless accessibility to data wherever it resides—on or off premise, in Amazon Web Services (AWS) or in new OpenStack clouds. Organisations can achieve cost savings by moving unused data to lower cost storage tiers or the cloud without manual intervention. An automated policy engine based on file metadata—such as file type or age—can move data to public clouds such as AWS. Data can be brought back quickly when required so only ‘hot’ data uses more expensive storage. Veritas Access can be installed in any commodity x86 hardware and is available in controlled release.

Scalable Hybrid Cloud Resiliency for Today’s 24x7 Organisation
More than ever, organisations need to ensure business resiliency to protect their revenue, brand and reputation. Many organisations use NetBackup Auto Image Replication to move data from one data center to another in the event recovery is needed. In the new releases, NetBackup will integrate with Veritas Resiliency Platform 2.1 so IT can orchestrate complex recoveries for thousands of virtual machines with single-click automation. Resiliency Platform allows organisations to implement a unified resiliency strategy for complex, multi-platform and multi-vendor hybrid cloud environments.

Data Insight

Delivering Protection with Integrated Visibility to Reduce Risk and Costs
Designed for the hybrid cloud, Veritas NetBackup delivers agility and increases efficiency by providing an integrated solution for data protection, recovery and insight into an organisations unstructured data. Enterprises need visibility into their data to understand its value or, in some cases, liability. Together NetBackup and Information Map are the first solution to integrate data visibility and data protection, addressing the mounting challenges enterprises face managing unclassified, dark data. Veritas Information Map is fully integrated with NetBackup to provide a visual experience for the IT team to gain insight into the organisation's unstructured data and global data environment. Organisations are now empowered to properly assign backup policies to protect and store the data that is most valuable to their business. This enables organisations to make better decisions on what data is valuable for their business. Veritas Information Map is available now. A free trial of Information Map with NetBackup allows businesses to quickly and simply identify opportunities to optimise information storage and reduce information risk in as little as 24 hours.
