Violin starter kits accelerate migration to all flash enterprise data centre

Violin Memory has launched two Starter Kits which feature Violin’s Flash Storage Platform (FSP) 7700 that delivers high availability in a single system and gives enterprise data centre customers the ability to scale their data centre capacity while maintaining high availability.

The Scalable Starter Kit enables customers to start their all-flash data centre with as little as 70 TB of raw capacity. When more space is needed, additional Violin arrays can be seamlessly added as storage shelves up to a maximum of 1.4 petabytes raw capacity. With the Stretch Cluster Starter Kit, customers can implement the only native all-flash stretch cluster for data protection that ensures comprehensive and automated recovery for all critical applications, business data, and services in case of a catastrophic event. The FSP 7700 is fully integrated with Violin’s Concerto™ OS 7 to deliver enterprise data services, consistent, high performance and management simplicity to create a new class of flash-based solutions for primary storage applications.
Aimed at offering enterprise data centre customers an easy and affordable way to add the power of flash while preserving the ability to scale storage as business needs grow, both Starter Kits enable enterprises to immediately take advantage of an all-flash array on a small scale and grow, over time, up to 2+ million IOPS and 1.4 petabytes raw capacity in a single namespace. Additionally, the Stretch Cluster Starter Kit adds the benefit of disaster recovery to deploy an HA solution between two geographically separated sites.
“For enterprises, the move to an all-flash data centre is an increasingly attractive and realistic step to not only reduce storage costs and lower power consumption but to do so with accelerated performance, increased efficiencies, and hence improved overall ROI,” said Mark Peters, Practice Director and Senior Analyst at the Enterprise Strategy Group. “Violin’s Starter Kits give organisations all the fundamental tools they’ll need to take the first steps in making that migration, and Violin is making that transition even easier by providing everything out of the box at reduced cost.”
Scalable Starter Kit
This Scalable Starter Kit features the FSP 7700 which can deliver up to 2+ million IOPS of performance with consistent sub millisecond latency. Users can start with as little as 70 TB of raw capacity, as space is needed, additional Violin arrays can be seamlessly added as storage shelves up to a maximum of 1.4 petabytes raw capacity. Customers also have the option to scale with full data protection for stretch clusters deployed over metropolitan distances.
The Violin Scalable Starter Kit includes:
  • Two Violin FSP 7700 Modular Scalable Array Controllers
  • Two switches
  • Two all-flash arrays with a total 70 TB of raw flash capacity (35 TB per shelf)
  • Violin Concerto OS 7 and Symphony™ Management Software
Stretch Cluster Starter Kit
This Stretch Cluster Starter kit builds upon Violin’s comprehensive data protection technology to provide data centers with the ability to survive a catastrophic event without business impact. Violin’s integrated stretch cluster technology delivers synchronous mirroring of all selected LUNs across geographically dispersed locations. With support for zero Recovery Point Objective (RPO) and Recovery Time Objective (RTO), a Violin FSP 7700 Stretch Cluster can keep your business running.
The Violin Stretch Cluster Starter Kit includes:
  • Two Violin FSP 7700 Modular Scalable Array Controllers
  • Four switches
  • Two all-flash arrays with a total 70 TB of raw flash capacity (35 TB per site)
  • Violin Concerto OS 7 and Symphony Management Software
  • Stretch Cluster License
Violin’s FSP 7700 is an enterprise storage solution designed to provide both capacity and performance. The FSP 7700 eliminates issues of complexity and reliability for business continuity by providing robust data services for the enterprise’s entire primary data storage needs, managed easily at a granular, group or global level. The features of the FSP 7700 deliver the high performance expected from an all-flash platform and data protection resulting in comprehensive and automated recovery for all critical applications, business data, and services.
All Violin FSP solutions are built upon highly redundant, no single point of failure hardware platforms, which are integrated with Violin’s Concerto OS 7 to provide Enterprise Data Services that offer data efficiency, data scalability, and business continuity.
“With the transformative benefits of flash that include higher performance, greater efficiencies, and reduced overall costs, it’s a matter of when, not if, enterprises will start making the migration to an all-flash data centre,” said Amy Love, CMO of Violin Memory. “It’s Violin’s goal to make that process as smooth as possible. By providing everything organisations need and bundling it together as a starter kit, it’s now easier than ever for enterprises to begin their journey to an all-flash environment.”
