Protecting customers from DDoS attacks

France-based SdV Plurim?dia, the leading hosting provider for the international media industry, has implemented the SmartWall® Threat Defense System (TDS) to protect its world-class data centers against DDoS attacks. With the Corero solution in place, SdV Plurim?dia brings an optimum level of reliability to its networks and guarantees DDoS protection to its customers as part of its 99.999% Service Level Agreement (SLA).

SdV Plurim?dia experiences a high volume of web requests and traffic; like many other hosting providers, it experienced DDoS attacks at speeds that threatened its own network and—by default—its customers’ web sites. Due to the latency-sensitive nature of its business and high-availability requirements of the networks, traditional solutions such as cloud-based scrubbing services would not suffice because they require human intervention to detect and mitigate attacks, sometimes resulting in oversights and delays.
“We guarantee the 5x9 SLA to our customers and we commit to maintaining 24/7 network uptime; therefore, it’s crucial for us to deploy a dedicated, inline anti-DDOS appliance,” said Salim Gasmi, CTO at SdV Plurim?dia. “Corero’s SmartWall TDS solves the DDoS problem entirely, which improves our overall value proposition, and it allows us to extend our service offerings,” said Gasmi.
SdV Plurim?dia selected the Corero SmartWall TDS because it deploys silently in the network, does not require any network element reconfiguration, and does not create any parallel network with traffic redirection and reinjection. Corero’s product easily integrates into SdV Plurim?dia’s infrastructure – in front of its firewalls, creating an additional critical layer of security within the network. “We are also impressed by its proprietary, patented heuristic detection and mitigation mechanism called SmartRules,” said Gasmi.
“In addition to assuring service availability for the hosting provider, the Corero SmartWall TDS mitigation guarantees that SdV Plurim?dia’s customers do not experience service availability issues in the event of a DDoS attack,” said Dave Larson, Chief Operating Officer, Corero. “Furthermore, the Corero SmartWall TDS acts as a black box; once deployed in the network, it requires little or no intervention from any security or operation personnel,” said Larson.
